YOUR SLEEP STUDY
Once you have booked your sleep study we will confirm the date via secure email and patient portal.
Our specialist sleep physiologists will set- up the sleep study remotely or in-person (depending on type of sleep study).
If equipment has been posted, we will ensure you receive an email or phone call to go through the set-up at home.
In-hospital sleep studies you will be admitted at the allocated time and meet our physiologists on the day.
After your sleep study our friendly admin team will allocate a follow-up appointment to discuss the results with your consultant, alternatively they may send the results directly to your consultant’s office who will contact you to arrange a follow-up.
SLEEP DIAGNOSIS
POLYSOMNOGRAPHY
This is the gold standard sleep study. We will assess your sleep quality and actual sleep time as well as leg movements, abnormal behaviours and breathing during the night. It is performed in the hospital overnight and will be monitored remotely by a sleep technician or nurse. This sleep study is used to diagnose more complex sleep conditions such as parasomnia and narcolepsy. The sleep study may need to be continued into the daytime to objectively assess the level of daytime sleepiness experienced, or to diagnose narcolepsy.
BLOOD TESTS
In some conditions blood tests may be necessary to identify the underlying cause. For example; a low thyroid hormone level may cause worsening of obstructive sleep apnoea, or a low iron level can cause restless leg syndrome. Your doctor will discuss blood tests with you during your consultation.
